Description
Cornerstone Research Group Inc. (CRG) proposes to build on its successful Phase II demonstration of an engine-based, hybrid electric power system and integrated control architecture for SOCOM TALOS to develop and demonstrate an Integrated Battery Power Unit (IBPU) based solely on advanced battery technologies (LiPo, Li-Sulfur, Li-Air, etc.) and CRGs custom electronic control system CRGs IBPU will leverage state-of-the-art battery technologies to create a compact, lightweight power source that maximizes safety and endurance for the TALOS exoskeleton. Safety features will also be implemented that monitor, manage and communicate the health status of the system, including a custom active battery management system that can monitor individual cell temperatures and voltages to perform real time balancing. An active thermal management system will also be introduced to control cell temperatures and prevent dangerous conditions from being reached. The successful completion of the proposed work will yield a prototype IBPU that is suitable for integration into the Mk 5 exoskeleton.
