Description
CRG is reducing the cost-to-space by leveraging MG Resina new high-temperature polymerto decrease structural and TPS mass fractions in support of reusable launch vehicle (RLV) development. In Phase I, Cornerstone Research Group, Inc. (CRG) demonstrated feasibility of MG Resin with regard to thermal performance and composite processing. MGs unique chemistry demonstrated thermal oxidative stability greater than 750 F with excellent hot/wet performance. In Phase II, CRG is continuing material and process development activities to establish mechanical performance at 750 F, perform an arc jet test to establish performance in a relevant environment, and demonstrate manufacturing scalability with production of larger, more complex composites. Advantages resulting from CRGs proposed plan will provide DARPA, other government agencies, and commercial customers an affordable, easy to process, 750 F capable resin system for structural applications that is not susceptible to moisture. This resin system will enable RLV platforms to reduce or even eliminate parasitic TPS and allow aircraft-like operation and storage, since the materials are not vulnerable to inclement weather.
