Description

This project combines commercially-available modules with cloud computing and state-of-the-art software to develop the memBRAIN system to assist young adults with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) to safely and effectively transition into independent living. memBRAIN is a non-invasive safety net appliance that detects and reports abnormal behavior to parents and other remote caregivers. Project objectives include: (1) determining end user requirements, (2) developing a proof-of-concept prototype of the system, and (3) evaluating the utility of the prototype with actual young adults who represent a cross-section of functional limitations and their parents. By using memBRAIN, young adults with autism can transition to living independently and safely in the community of their choice, while their parents can keep track of their progress without impacting their independence.
