FTL LABS CORP — Department of Defense SBIR Phase II: Non-DoD

Description

In Phase I, FTL Labs Corporation (FTL), working with Dr. Frank Sup's Mechatronics and Robotics Research Laboratory at UMass, Amherst, prototyped and tested a powerful new enabling technology for socket fitment using low-cost, point-to-point, ultrasonic bone tracking transceivers. In Phase I FTL's SoundFit is was shown to be feasible and effective. It applies ultrasound and video-game-like visualization software to provide the prosthetist a quantifiable view of prosthesis performance during active loading exercises.Demonstrating the feasibility and productizability of this approach was the core goal of the Phase I effort, which the research team feels it achieved completely.In Phase II, the team will continue with creating a "Minimum Viable Product" system for human subjects efficacy testing with the targeted end-users, clinical prosthetists.A PHase II Option is also proposed in which a cost-optimized, manufacturable system is developed. The SoundFit technology is patent pending, with a provisional application filed June 18, 2015, prior to the onset of Phase I technical work.
