Description
Global Engineering and Materials, Inc. (GEM) proposes to develop a hybrid multi-axial fatigue analysis toolkit for Abaqus through a coupling of frequency and time domain solution modules to capture accumulated damage in metallic and its repaired structures resulting from mixed quasi-static and dynamic loading. GEM will draw on its extensive experience in advanced metal fatigue and fracture and bolted and bonded repair analysis and leverage its current NAVAIR sponsored programs and data collected for module verification and validation under this Phase I program. The novelty of our program includes superposition of sub-domain frequency solutions to capture the damage induced evolution of frequency response functions, scaled damage accumulation laws with a given energy dissipation to alleviate mesh dependency, characterization of the nonlinear effects associated with plasticity and contact via a time domain solution, coupling with the frequency domain fatigue analysis module with a pre-defined damage map and its associated damage state variables, and development of isogeometry analysis model in frequency domain to characterize complex repair geometries along with their accurate stress prediction. The use of the commercial software (Abaqus) as a base framework can greatly reduce the development cycle and enhance its commercialization viability via a wide variety of industrial applications.
