Description
ABSTRACT: Helios Remote Sensing Systems, Inc. proposes to research the use of continuous HPRF to improve detection range and other improvements for air-to-air and air-to-ground scenarios.We will develop techniques to resolve range ambiguities in a continuous HPRF mode and complete trade-off studies for various ambiguity reduction techniques such as tracking filters.We will evaluate each approach in various air-to-air and air-to-ground scenarios against selected targets.We will determine SNR, processing gains, resolution improvements, computational requirements, and perform trade-off analysis.In addition, we will investigate optimum tracking techniques to resolve ambiguities, computational requirements, and cost trade-offs.During Phase II, Helios will integrate the developed techniques into a candidate radar or a simulated radar system using measured data in a continuous HPRF mode.We will determine sampling, data bandwidths, and computational requirements, along with other relevant performance parameters.Our plan includes test and evaluation of the most promising algorithms to resolve ambiguities using measured data.We will work closely with the Air Force to provide feedback on operational suitability.; BENEFIT: The technology from this SBIR effort will become instrumental in the development of a variety of Department of Defense and commercial radar applications.HPRF, as well as Medium PRF radars can benefit from this research effort.The proposed technique promises to improve SNR and detection range making the candidate radars more effective.
