Description
The implementation of residual stresses for various surface enhancements methods in metallic components to improve fatigue life has been clearly demonstrated through for example the application of laser peening on turbine engine components. Maturing methods to model fatigue life benefit as a result of compressive residual stresses are needed to enhance the implementation surface residual stresses for fatigue mitigation. Modeling the benefits of residual stress and life prediction fits perfectly with this umbrella to promote the benefits of these processes. The predictive modeling tool being proposed would be integrated into not just turbine engine components but for any metallic component being considered for fatigue improvement.
