Description
Lynntech is developing an energy efficient desalination technology for small scale applications. The energy requirements for traditional desalination processes such as reverse osmosis can be as high as 30 Wh/L when producing potable water from seawater at small scale production rates.During the Phase I project, Lynntech developed a novel desalination technology and demonstrated an energy efficiency as low as 2 Wh/L at rates suitable for individual and small groups. The low energy requirements make this technology ideal for battery powered portable applications.During the Phase II project, Lynntech will develop and test full-scale prototype devices capable of desalinating seawater at a rate of 5 L/hour for use in recreational, marine, and military markets.Lynntechs desalination module will be integrated with filtration components from a leading water purification company to provide full spectrum desalination and disinfection to enable use of the device with any source water. The anticipated prototype system is expected to weigh 10 lbs with a volume of 0.3 ft3 and will be capable of desalinating >500 liters of seawater on a single charge. After development and in-house testing, the prototype systems will undergo verification and validation testing to position the technology for rapid commercialization.
