Description

Mainstream Engineering Corporation is developing a prognostic health monitoring system for missile electronics. Called the Weapon Inspection, Sustainment, and Recorder Device (WISARD), this stamp-sized health monitoring system operates on 3.6 mW of power and measures temperature, vibration, and humidity to estimate the remaining life of an electronics assembly. In Phase I, we developed the failure model and experimentally validated performance. We will complete development in Phase II and transition from a breadboard proof-of-concept WISARD to an integrated system, whereby the WISARD is fabricated within a 1" x 1" x 0.2" volume on a representative circuit card assembly. We have secured a letter of support from Boeing for military applications and Rockwell Collins for commercial avionics applications. Mainstream is in a strong position to commercialize this technology in Phase III. We have considerable experience converting SBIR research to commercial and military products. Our DoD commercialization achievement index (CAI) is 95% and we are a two-time winner of the SBA Tibbetts Award for commercialization.
