Description
The purpose of Phase I research was to investigate the feasibility of creating the NeuroAudit Wireless EEG System-on-a-Chip (SoC). The system measures EEG waveforms from up to 64 electrode sites and transmits the data wirelessly to a nearby electronic gateway device (e.g. Smartphone, Tablet or computer). The system operates at very low power levels allowing the head worn SoC to be completely powered via harvested energy. This results in a revolutionary system, which is essentially invisible to the user and can collect data 24/7. During Phase I an extensive literature search, analytical calculations, simulations and measurements were used to design the ideal system for this application. The result of this work is a schematic level design, which meets the goals of the project. The solution uses a novel frontend topology, which greatly reduces required power consumption while maintaining signal integrity equivalent to traditional systems. Data is transmitted using a low power ultra-wideband (UWB) radio. Furthermore, the team has outlined a power harvesting solution, which can power the NeuroAudit system using a multimodal approach.
