Description
Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) is becoming prevalent in the hospital, especially in the treatment of critically ill patients where pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic profiles are compromised due to severe illness. The ability for doctors to evaluate how much active drug is being delivered in real time can enable adaptive treatment options that will result in better patient outcome while reducing risk of drug resistant microorganisms. With AGILE Mx, we plan to offer physicians a global picture of the health of the patient at the bedside in <30 minutes with only a finger prick. Analysis software will process the data rapidly, and provide meaningful drug concentrations within the patient sample. Multiple time points will be able to be displayed via the user interface, so doctors can easily track drug levels over time, thus enabling bedside treatment decisions based on the information provided and standard of care guidelines. The goal of this project is to provide proof-of-concept data for TDM of Vancomycin, Colistin, and 2 control proteins, Alpha-1-glycoprotein and human serum albumin, which change in the critically ill and result in more or less active drug. These targets would give a complete picture to the physician not currently available with common HPLC techniques.
