Description

Intentionally emplaced munitions, self-detonating munitions, such as landmines and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) are a persistent and deadly threat in active and former regions of conflict around the world. A novel method of identifying and geo-locating these munitions from long distances is necessary to enable safe and efficient location, disarming, and removal of these deadly emplaced threats. Nokomis showed through successful execution on Phase I that the Hiawatha system can be transitioned to a solution that detects unique intended emissions signatures from a Radio Frequency (RF) transmitter that can be embedded on the munition at standoff distances. Nokomis proposes to leverage its extensive expertise in remote detection, identification and geo-location of emplaced electronic devices to develop a stand-alone, stationary electronics geo-location system, based on the Company’s matured Hiawatha detection system. Under this Phase II effort, Nokomis will develop the Hiawatha Stationary Geo-location System, which will a full hardware design and build and full stationary geo-location algorithm and data processing modules integrated into the existing software architecture. In parallel, Nokomis will develop ten (10) prototype intentional emitter boards that will serve as the electromagnetic beacon when embedded onto a munitions platform.
