Description
With current technology, up to 50 aircraft transmitting Mode 5 Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) can be simulated. To fulfill the needs of the Joint Scalable Tactical Emulated Network (JSTEN), the ability to simulate 1,000 aircraft is required. To achieve this goal, the NuWaves Team proposes the ADvanced Rf environment simulator for mOde 5 and IdenTification friend or foe (ADROIT) system. The ADROIT system builds on the current technology by incorporating a high linearity RF power amplifier (PA) and low-spurious RF downconverter in an improved COTS IFF simulator/stimulator. The additional RF output power from the PA, and the reduced spurious emissions from the downconverter combine to provide greater system dynamic range, for a more realistic representation of the RF environment. The technical objective of the ADROIT effort is to design, simulate, and analyze an innovative high-efficiency and high-linearity L-band PA, and a low-spurious downconverter to increase the dynamic range of a COTS IFF simulator/stimulator. Additionally, the integration plan for the PA and downconverter into the IFF simulator/stimulator, identification of the upgrades to the IFF simulator/stimulator to process up to 1,000 aircraft, and definition of the interface of the ADROIT system to the Armys JSTEN network will be completed.
