Description
Modern day close-in missile defense systems such as the Navy Phalanx CIWSand its land-based counterpart: the Counter Rocket, Artillery, and Mortar (C-RAM)consist of a mechanically gimballed 20 mm Gatling gun linked to a microwave radar system for detecting and tracking targets. Long-range engagement of diverse, maneuvering targets places significant accuracy requirements on the radar and gimbal, and additionally requires a high number of shots per target to achieve intercept. The incorporation of conformal seeker antennas onto medium-caliber (2557 mm) projectiles stands to be a game-changing technology that will increase the probability of intercept. Nuvotronics will perform the trade analysis based on the frequency, size, placement and other driving parameters of the design.Nuvotronics will develop new high-gain, end-fire conformal seeker antennas leveraging its PolyStrata microfabrication technology that will be engineered to survive the high G shock gun-launch environment.
