Description

To address the Air Force need for a secure wireless communications system that is survivable and jam-resistant, having low probability of detection, interception, and exploitation (LPD/LPI/LPE), and supports communications with a data rate of at least 1 Mbps over >50 miles, preferably within the 335 to 500 MHz frequency band, Physical Optics Corporation (POC) proposes to develop a new Secure Covert Communication EMI/Radiation Resistant System (SUCCESS). This proposed system is based on the integration of available COTS hardware components/technologies with POCs in-house LPI/LPD/LPE chaotic communication schema to offer secure communication with exceptional LPI/LPD/LPE/anti-jam performance (<<10-9) over distances >50 km with a data rate of ~20 Mbps. The innovations in system design and the use of optimized off-the-shelf communication protocol will enable SUCCESS to provide power-efficient LPI/LPD/LPE point-to-point ad hoc network communication at medium range, fulfilling the Air Force needs. In Phase I, POC will perform a technology feasibility study, develop the overall system architecture and design, perform an analysis of the expected performance, and assemble and test a prototype system to demonstrate the feasibility of the approach. In Phase II, POC will assemble and demonstrate an advanced SUCCESS prototype communication system to confirm capacity and other performance metrics.
