Description

In the proposed SBIR effort, Rocky Research is using innovative technologies developed during Phase I to further develop an Efficient, Lightweight, Multi-power, Modular, and Rugged refrigerator for the US Army. Improved vapor-compression cycle with addition of Phase-Change Material, ejectors, variable speed technology for energy efficiency, electronics for multi-power capability, Carbon fiber structures for lightweight and ruggedness are some of the innovative technologies Rocky Research is using to achieve high efficient, lightweight, rugged Modular Refrigerator for the ARMY. During Phase I of the project the initial concept design was successfully developed, 3-D models completed, and technical feasibility of achieving COP of higher than 3 at high ambient temperatures of 135F while keeping 38F refrigerated temperature was demonstrated through testing and modeling results. By using innovative technologies, the internal refrigerated volume of 7.5 cubic feet is possible.
