Description

This Phase I program will provide the Navy with a new crash-rated pallet rapid restraint (CPR2) system design. The CPR2 pallet will be ~35% lighter than the existing 463L pallet, it will only require 1 person and less than 30 minutes to install/remove, it will allow the TBFDS to be used at its full capacity and mission capability, and will exceed the NAVAIR crash g-load requirements of 20g vertically, 20g forward-aft, and 10g laterally. San Diego Composites (SDC), a market leader in high performance composite systems, will team with Davis Aircraft Products Company, a market leader in aircraft restraint systems and current supplier of the tie-down rings on the CH-53K, to design, analyze, build, and test the proposed CPR2 system. In the Phase I program, SDC will develop the design for the CPR2 system, perform finite element analysis of the overall system and critical components, collaborate with Davis Aircraft Products to establish an appropriate restraint mechanism (e.g., framed cargo net), and manufacture and test sub-scale component prototypes to validate the technology for further development to TRL/MRL 6 by the end of Phase II.
