Description

ABSTRACT: SI2 Technologies, Inc. (SI2) will enable next generation RF seeker capability on Air Force (AF) weapons systems with our innovative ultra-wideband, conformal, structurally integrated array aperture. The extremely low profile array will provide an expanded field of regard while maintaining beam shaping capability across a wide instantaneous bandwidthto support evolving software defined radar seekers using frequency agile waveforms. The proposed aperture is based on SI2s proven wideband array architectures and novel antenna miniaturization techniques. Our proposed solution uses the axial length of the platform body for integration, thereby leaving the nosecone area undisturbed and available for other functions.In PH I, SI2 will simulate and optimize aperture performance. We will also simulate the achievable performance on a representative platform, and develop a manufacturing and structural integration plan for the conformal RF seeker aperture technology. SI2 will validate our design and manufacturing approach via fabrication and test of a proof of concept hardware demonstrator to demonstrate TRL 4 at the conclusion of the PH I program. In PH II, we will refine and optimize performance of the ultra-wideband structurally integrated aperture and will also work to integrate it with a next generation RF seeker to develop a full system solution.; BENEFIT: Evolving AF fifth- and sixth-generation weapons platform RF seekers will be software defined and capable of performing multiple missions using frequency agile radar and communication waveforms. These systems will require ultra-wideband apertures; importantly, these apertures must be capable of being structurally integrated and conform to the extremely limited size and outer mold line (OML) of the weapon platform. In addition, an extended field of regard may be required while still maintaining beam shaping capabilities. SI2s proposed innovative ultra-wideband structurally integrated aperture technology is a key enabling technology for next generation RF seekers.Besides the focus on Air Force weapons platform here, there is great demand for small, lightweight, RF seeker systems on other missile platforms, small unmanned air systems (UAS), aircraft and other volume constrained platforms. Additionally, demand for radar seekers for the commercial automotive market is expected to increase in the near future.
