Description

SIFT, working with research partner Dr. Richard Linares, proposes to develop SAVANT a Space Situational Awareness Visualization and Vulnerability Analysis Tool. SAVANT will rapidly assess the vulnerability of blue space assets to potential ground and space-based threats, and provide a heightened awareness of the mission impact posed by these threats so that space commanders may make timely decisions. We will develop SAVANT to serve as a plug-in component to a broader SSA architecture, leveraging dynamic catalog updates and space object characterization to inform our vulnerability analysis, and providing projected threat event windows as vital information for other SSA services. Knowledge of potential threat event windows will support high-level threat assessment and fusion software, and will provide the collection requirements needed to discern coming attacks. Finally, we will apply our expertise in human-system interface research to design visual displays that convey this information in ways that promote better situation awareness and decision-making. Together, the analytical and visual components of SAVANT will provide an immediate and deep understanding of potential threats, enabling commanders to make the best possible operational decisions in the time permitted to protect our assets and perserve mission success.
