Description

Spero Devices is proposing design of a memristor-CMOS co-processor to implement analog Discrete Fourier Transforms (DFTs). The analog co-processor invokes spectral methods to solve a class of linear and non-linear partial differential equations (PDEs) arising in the scientific simulation of complex systems. Current PDE solution methods are inefficient and often intractable due to limitations associated with discrete variable encoding and serial processing. The proposed analog co-processor will provide over two orders of magnitude improvement in computational latency and power consumption. The memristor devices in the analog co-processor are able to change and remember their resistance state, which has important implications for analog DFT realization since memristor devices can program DFT coefficients and perform vector matrix multiplication (VMM) with the input signals.
