Description

As populations continue to swell and migrate into urban areas, megacities have emerged that exert emergent complex issues. These cities that that support populations of greater than 10 million people have density and complexity that greatly surpasses what is typically found in LVC simulations.A representation of megacities in simulation is clearly important to training, doctrine development, and analysis simulation communities to allow simulation of real world conditions in these unique environments.Fundamentally representation of megacities requires significant advances in simulation technology in many inter-related dimensions. These include high entity densities within the simulation, complex multi-level urban terrain representation and reasoning, critical infrastructure and patterns of life support, and lifecycle tool support. To address these complex requirements, StackFrame proposes to leverage its Blended Simulation Internal Research and Development (IR&D) effort that already integrates dense urban terrain generated via StackFrames Magrathea terrain generation tool, with a Patterns of Life simulation with a next generation Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) based interoperability platform called Osseus.Together, these capabilities provide a Testbed that can easily be integrated with existing Army LVC simulations to research enhancements necessary to support a full Megacity capability.
