Description

Metal-alloy based anode materials have much higher energy density and provide distinct advantages. However mechanical degradation and eventual failure of metal-alloy anode during electrochemical cycling lead to the loss of capacity, thus limiting its cycle life and commercialization. Storagenergy Technologies Inc. and North Carolina State University propose to design and develop a high-performance nano-structured metal-alloy anode material and a low-cost manufacturing process for Li-ion batteries. The goal of the Phase I project is to develop an encapsulated nanosized alloy/carbon porous nanofiber anode material with low cost, high safety, high capacity of >700 mAh/g, excellent cyclability, high coulombic efficiency and high rate performance.
