Description
This Phase II will develop hardware prototypes using Interference Alignment (IA) to improve the throughput performance of a MANET (Mobile ad hoc Network) radio. IA uses an iterative transmit/receive beamforming algorithm running on multiple antenna (MIMO) radios to reduce interference and allowing multiple users to transmit concurrently. Our IA algorithm works in a completely distributed manner via a spread spectrum MAC layer that allows concurrent Hails and channel Probes. This program builds on our prior PhaseI prototypes by adding: wideband beamforming, spread spectrum MAC, variable user loading, adaptive modulation and coding, distributed user scheduling and fairness. At the conclusion of this Phase II, our prototypes will be capable of outdoor testing with user mobility, and will facilitate a fair comparison with our existing (non-IA) single-user MIMO MANET.
