Description
TAI proposes a heat exchanger (HEX) for a Thermoelectric Generator (TEG) based on high conductivity woven graphite fibers (900 W/mK with a mass density of 2.2 gr/cm3, more than twice as good as copper). The HEX proposed (plus TEGs) has a power density of 89 watts per kilogram (more than 2.5 times the best devices made for man portable battery charging). The heat source can be open flame or any other 320C+ source with a cold side heat sink of air or water. The very durable lightweight (217 grams) HEX can be collapsed and transported in an 8x11 envelope or back pack.Woven graphite samples will be built and tested to confirm the thermal and physical characteristics.Computational modeling will result in optimized designs for Government selection for Phase II.This advance in high conductivity woven graphite fibers material will create revolutionary new lightweight air heat exchanger products.
