Description

Although the technologies developed over the last decade have helped solve several difficult field engine problems there is a need for analytical tool for reliable HCF life estimation engine components, specifically of blisk aerofoils in the presence of residual stresses. Technical Data Analysis Inc. will develop a novel HCF life assessment technology along with an associated software package to analyze and predict total life of blisk aerofoils and other components in aircraft engines.

TDAs life prediction software will be useful both at the design stage as well as during service to deal with a repair question. The software will assist the engineer to deal with the two key questions he will face during design as well as maintenance: (1) how to calculate the life of a blisk aerofoil with a given residual stress profile for intact and FOD cases and (2) what should the residual stress distribution for a desired life be for intact and FOD cases. The software will have ancillary tools for residual stress prediction from laser peening and stress relaxation effects. Noting that probabilistic component is very essential to life prediction due to uncertainties in the input, the software will provide life calculations with probabilistic components.
