Description
Toyon proposes to develop the Microscale Wind Field Measurement System (MWFMS) for measuring a full 3D wind field by using a approach capable of measuring the wind velocity and direction throughout an entire volume. The proposed approach uses a micro UAV equipped with local meteorological sensor in conjunction with a mathematical model. The wind field is then estimating using specialized data processing and computational methods and current measurements. The approach promises to create a fast and manageable solution for covering the 3DWF grid volume. The proposed solution also leverages several Toyon technologies for UAV routing, navigation and control, decentralized asset management for a swarm of micro UAV's, and domain knowledge in the area transport and dispersion modeling. The Phase I research will assess the feasibility of the MWFMS solution through a combination of performance modeling and proof-of-principle testing.
