Description

Trex Enterprises proposing to design a Laser source at 1064 nm with Variable Pulse Width Capability with adjustable pulse repletion frequency (PRF). The goal of this research proposal is design a laser at 1064 nm with adjustable pulse width ranging from 2 ns to 160 ns. The PRF of the laser will be also adjustable from 8 Hz to 75 Hz with ultimate goal of 100 Hz. This newly proposed laser at 1064 nm with adjustable pulse width and PRF is based on hybrid technology of fiber lasers and diode-pumped, solid-state laser amplifier. A Labview or Matlab program will control all the parameters of the laser including the pulse energy, pulse width and PRF. The seed laser diode spectral line width will be broadened from 1 MHz to 1 GHz using a commercially available Coherent Control Module in order to mitigate the SBS issues that plague all fiber lasers with large pulse width (>5 ns). The duration of the optical pulses and PRF will be determined by electrical signals applied to the Mach-Zehnder modulator. A 3-stage Yb fiber amplifier will be used to boost the energy from nJ to a few hunded uJ. A final last stage diode-pumped, Solid-State amplifier
