Description
Triton Systems proposes to develop and demonstrate the feasibility of a clinically-viable implantable electrode with mechanical properties compatible with nervous tissue in the peripheral nervous system. The proposed intrafascicular electrode utilizes a combination of recently developed materials that i) enable excellent conductivity, good strength and high compliance and ii) provide a rapid transition from rigid exterior for ease of insertion to soft, compliant exterior for compatibilization with the surrounding tissue. In Phase I we will fabricate prototype electrodes, evaluate their electrical and mechanical properties, demonstrate their biocompatibility, and demonstrate, ex vivo, the ability to implant and stimulate a nerve.
