Description
A two-pulse Third Stage Rocket Motor (TSRM) with long inter-pulse (100+sec) capability can enhance the Next Generation SM3 BMDS interceptor targeting capability.Due to this, the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) is seeking innovative component technologies that support improvements for manufacturing/performance and mass reduction for Third Stage Rocket Motor (TSRM) and TSRM ACS components/materials. To address this need we are proposing the continued development, during this Phase II SBIR program, of a new lightweight and long duration TSRM ACS that is enabled by our extinguishable solid propellant Hot Gas Valve (HGV) design and system operation developed on parallel MDA SBIR programs. The result is a new controllable solid propulsion TSRM ACS architecture that is lightweight with increased high and low thrust impulse controllability for accurate TSRM ACS attitude control and KW pointing for enhanced targeting.
