Description
Continuous monitoring of bioelectrical signals can provide valuable insight to subjects stress, fatigue, resilience, and overall health. A rugged, miniaturized, low-power integrated circuit that has the ability to detect a wide variety of signals using noncontact electrodes lends itself to a valuable platform for a wearable system to assess an individuals physical and mental status. We propose such a system, comprised of sensing modules that are body-position agnostic, and a software package which wirelessly collects data from the sensors and presents the desired signals or derived physiologic parameters. The system is called Multi-Modal Miniature Integrated Circuit Reporting Overall Status: MICROS. MICROS builds on underlying technology that has been developed by Vivonics in partnership with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in order to achieve a system of miniature, wearable sensors with the ultimate goal that the sensor modules are sufficiently small and low-power that they can derive all their power needs from energy harvested from the human body. Here we propose to integrate the developed sensing technology into a single module that can be used anywhere on the body to reliably detect, record, and transmit body surface potentials from ECG, EEG, or EDR.
