Description
The Phase I objective of this SBIR was to develop a nanothermite-based ignition composition to improve the no-fire performance of electro-explosive devices (EEDs). The developed nanoparticulate aluminum/cupric oxide (nACO) ignition composition provided a significant improvement in no-fire performance while maintaining all-fire sensitivity within acceptable limits. A hybrid composition of nACO and zirconium/potassium perchlorate (ZPP) provided similar improvements in no-fire sensitivity while increasing the closed bomb pressure output. The Phase II objective of this SBIR is to deliver PC72-equivalent and PC23-equivalent devices loaded with nACO-based ignition composition for qualification testing. Approved for Public Release 14-MDA-7739 (18 March 14).
