Description
The primary technical objectives for Phase II base is to evolve FMS into a next generation solution, named FMS 2.0, to permit rapid deployment to ICAS fleet ships. This will be accomplished primarily by implementing an integrated data storage module, removing a current limitation of an integrated historian and general optimization of inherent features of FMS which will permit fleet-wide deployment that is more efficient as an ICAS module. The existing FMS is currently dependent on third-party software and adds to the cost of installation due to the associated licensing fees. FMS 2.0 will be redesigned to eliminate the software components that require these licenses. Additionally, FMS 2.0 will allow for system expansion, and this base effort also includes a feasibility study to address the viability of expanding FMS to new systems and ship classes beyond DDG-51 class. Additionally, this follow on Phase 2 will allow for system expansion which includes a feasibility study to guide the expansion of FMS to systems properly equipped with sensors that support energy monitoring. In addition to helping operators make decisions to optimize fuel efficiency, we also then provide the data transparency and analytics to determine the root cause as to why the less fuel efficient plant configurations are less fuel efficient, and then provide guidance on corrective/maintenance action to improve fuel efficiency. Systems included in the study are: Diesel propulsion engines, electrical generators, air conditioning plants and refrigeration plants. Up to two systems will be selected to monitor for energy consumption purposes within the scope of FMS 2.0. The FMS 2.0 product will be completed in FY15 and ready for deployment to Flight IIA DDGs equipped with fuel meters in the near term and other ICAS ships equipped with fuel flow meters in the future.
