Description
To address Navy need for a novel in-situ, real-time, non-destructive permethrin test device for verification of permethrin content in military fabrics and uniforms in the field, HarmonoLogic LLC proposes to develop a new In-situ, Non-Destructive Optical Spectroscopic Permethrin Test (INDOSP) system based on optical spectroscopic sensing technologies. The portable, hand-held, non-destructive INDOSP system rapidly (within 10 seconds) and accurately (relative error < 5%) measures the permethrin content and determines the level of protection remaining on military uniform and fabric in the field. Being a non-destructive optical spectroscopic technology, the INDOSP system does not need any solvent for extraction of permethrin. The single uniform optical spectroscopic platform results in a simplified compact, portable and hand-held device ( ≤ 6  8  12 in., < 1 lb.) INDOSP system. The ruggedized package makes the INDOSP system robust, fieldable and compliant with MIL-STD-810G. The small form factor and the non-contact detection scheme of INDOSP provides the user the ability to test on any military fabric in multiple configurations. In Phase I HarmonoLogic will demonstrate the feasibility of INDOSP technology by fabricating and testing a TRL-4 prototype. In Phase II we plan to refine the technology and fabricate an integrated TRL-5 INDOSP prototype.
