Description
In this STTR, OASIS Inc, with partners the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Applied Physics Laboratory University of Washington (APL-UW) proposes to develop an innovative, interactive submarine acoustic counter detect TDA for use by the Submarine Mission Planners, within the AN/BYG-1. Communicating the environmental and tactical uncertainty is of primary importance when presenting vulnerability to the fleet users either in the planning of future evolutions, or in real-time situational awareness. To this end, a system-wide approach inclusive of uncertainty will be applied. Oceanographic uncertainty will be handled via ensemble forecast system of MSEAS, the MIT real-time forecasting of oceanographic properties with uncertainty. This oceanographic uncertainty, as well as geo-acoustic (via LFBL) and positional uncertainties will be included in the computation of the acoustic field (TL). Ambient noise variability and the projection of beam noise to a threat geo-located somewhere distant from the measurement platform will be addressed. During Phase I, a prototype graphical user interface, utilizing geo-referenced 2D plots will be designed.
