Description
Legacy systems represent challenges for the military services and DLA. During the initial SBIR Phase II, the fuel oil cooler (FOC) for the TF34 and other engines—which have been problem parts for years—were successfully addressed. This effort applied proven reverse engineering methods to generate a technical data package (TDP) that can enable a qualified production source to make the part in support of the of the sustainment supply chain. The follow-on (sequential) Phase II builds on this success, expanding the effort to include fuel control housings identified by the Air Force in conjunction with DLA. In addition to reverse engineering and TDP generation, the expanded Phase II program will deliver prototype hardware, setting the stage for acceptance testing by the Air Force for the completed housings. The expanded Phase II builds on the template established for future FOC efforts—growing them to include complex housings as well. Like the initial Phase II, the expanded Phase II program is geared to establishment of a viable supply chain that is in place for these and similar essential legacy parts.
