Description

The Navy wants to extend the life of the MH-60R ALFS Transducer NiCad battery pack to be sure that failure of the battery pack does not significantly impact the failure rate of the ALFS Transducer. Battery packs typically fail before the expected life of the individual cells because of the lack of observability of the cells during charging and discharging. CornerTurn will add additional circuitry to the existing battery pack to monitor and protect each individual cell in the battery pack during every charge and discharge cycle. The circuitry will: (1) sense when an individual cell is in danger of being overcharged or overdischarged, and (2) electrically remove the affected cell from the circuitry without impacting the voltage or current characteristics of the pack.
