Description

The objective of this proposal is to produce an apparatus to automatically measure the corneal and scleral surface to facilitate the manufacture of ocular surface prosthetics with a lens diameter up to 24 millimeters. Prior art attempts to measure surface topology, especially in the bearing region of these large diameter lenses, have failed due to the steep curvature of the sclera. An apparatus will be developed to enable such measurement. A 3-dimensional model of each patient"s eye will be created and used to design a virtual fitting lens. This will reduce the time, cost, and skill level needed for fitting. The apparatus will eliminate measurement errors due to saccadic and random eye motion, measure topology under the eyelids, spatially align topology data to a fixed location in the eye, measure eye toricity, and create a 3 dimensional"real life"color model of the eye.
