Description
ABSTRACT: Freedom Photonics is proposing to develop a high-power integrated advanced modulattion format reansmitter with high output power and operating in the 1450-1500nm window. This is achieved through the adaptation of our current Indium Phosphide integration platform from 1550nm to this wavelength range. To reach our goal, a combination of a tunable DBR laser, a high-speed advanced modulation format optical modulator, and a high-power SOA booster will be integrated in one monolithic chip. BENEFIT: Integrated high-power transmitters has the potential to dramatically reduce size, power consumption, cost, and improve reliability of free-space optical links for satelite deployment. There is a large dual-use commercial market for advanced modulation format transmitters. The adaptation of our photonic integration platform away from the conventional 1550nm window to new wavelengths can open new opportunities for niche applications in sensing, LIDAR or for medical applications.
