Description
The overall aim of this Phase II SBIR is to augment the Foveated Vision Technologies (FOVIS) system under development by enabling high-speed wireless communication of images/video in high multipath and Non-Line-of-Sight links. Ziva proposes a novel and powerful approach called Time Reversal Software Radios (TARDIS) to enable enhanced communication in cluttered and unpredictable channels. TARDIS technology produces the optimal spatio-temporal matched filtering in any channel through Time Reversal (TR) precoding, producing significant gains and enabling diffraction-limited focusing at the intended receiver through coherent alignment of multipath echoes. Ziva"s TARDIS approach provides up to 20dB gain to the intended receiver. Implementation of TR is straightforward, robust, fully automatic, rapid, and requires no hardware beyond that of typical software defined radio (SDR) systems. TR operates by sounding the channel"s multipath propagation characteristics and using a time-reversed version of the multipath sounding as a precoding filter. The communication channel acts as the perfect matched filter which results in coherently harvesting the multipath components into TR gain. The output of the proposed program is to demonstrate TR waveforms on a SDR platform and evaluate its performance via simulations in a variety of real multipath and non-line of sight RF environments.
