Description

Next-generation warships under development by the U.S. Navy will have significantly higher power demands than those in the current fleet. The additional power is needed to support the advanced radar, weapons, and propulsion systems, and the distribution of shipboard power will require a significant volume and weight of copper conductors. Therefore, the proposed program will address the need for low-cost, high-power-density cables by demonstrating power cables based on high-temperature superconductor (HTS) technology.
