Description
A novel lithium battery has the potential to form the basis of a very high specific energy, rechargeable battery for shipboard wireless sensor systems. We propose to investigate a variety of approaches to develop this new battery design and optimize the cycle life, reliability, and safety. Our work on improving the performance characteristics of the battery will focus on building a proof-of-concept prototype. Polymer(s) or ceramic/glass electrolytes will be the choice for the solid state electrolytes,. Such a battery has the potential to deliver 500+ Wh in the space of 2 D cells.
