Description
The technical net power generation potential for the United States from marine energy is 2,300 TWh/year with ~95% coming from regions outside the Gulf of Mexico, the only current large scale supply chain for offshore needs. An additional 4,100 TWh/year of ocean thermal energy comes from Pacific territories. 53% of the United States' technical energy resource comes from wave energy; California, Oregon, Hawaii, and Alaska are the main contributors to wave energy potential. Technical resource is defined as the proportion of the theoretical resource that can be captured using existing technology options. This leaves a massive gap in the supply chain local to the marine energy sites that needs addressed so that marine energy can be at cost-parity with other sources of renewable energy. Triton and its team plan to develop partnerships with manufactures near the east and west coast marine energy sites while performing a design study for fabrication of anchoring systems. This strategy development would ensure that ports and supporting infrastructure are developed alongside these emerging technologies to ensure efficient local US manufacturing capable of meeting the demand of the planned large scale marine energy deployments. Triton Anchor proposes to develop an economically responsible anchor solution for the marine energy industry. During the Phase I of this proposed project, the Triton Team will engage with manufacturing facilities and maritime infrastructure including both ports and vessels near the United States marine energy resources on the East and West coasts as well as in Alaska and Hawaii. Engaging with the supply chain local to the marine energy sites will provide a cheaper and more adaptive development. Developing a supply chain for mooring systems on marine energy devices.
