Description
ABSTRACT: The Air Force Flight Test Center (AFFTC) is interested in upgrading their test aircraft fleet (or a portion thereof) to have onboard smart sensors (OSS). The target SBIR product for this project is a set of hardware components that allows the integration of IEEE 1451.4 Smart Sensors into the Common Airborne Instrumentation System (CAIS) which is the most common data acquisition system currently in use. In their SBIR project, NVE has developed data acquisition hardware to collect data from smart sensors. In this project we plan to mature NVE Corporation"s product by: (1)conducting environmental testing ("shake and bake"), (2)fully integrating it with instrumentation support systems (primarily software development effort), and (3)flight testing. BENEFIT: The proposed technology will provide a means of using smart sensors with existing flight test instrumentation systems, as well as provide an upgrade capability for existing dumb sensors.
