Description
We have proposed the development of a novel, low frequency, directed energy concept for neutralizing IEDs at a safe distance in front of moving vehicles. The concept is based on launching an"Energetic RF Zenneck-mode Surface Waves"(Z-waves), which unlike conventional RF free field propagation, its intensity falls off at a 1/r rate, and is capable of penetrating ground and shielded enclosures. The Z-wave generator promises to be a robust piece of equipment capable of long term continuous operation in rough terrain. In addition to direct neutralization of IEDs, Z-waves can potentially disrupt nearby communication devices used to trigger IEDs.
