Description

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is an imaging technique that is superior to standard electro-optical imagery in that it can produce actionable intelligence in all weather and both in day and night. Commercial space-based SAR, via micro-satellites, is creating new market opportunities in the fields of emergency response and insurance, journalism, maritime domain awareness, remote monitoring, and supply tracking for financial analysts. Umbra is successfully selling SAR imagery from its constellation today and is rapidly growing. This proposal looks to add new capabilities to Umbra's satellite constellation in the form of 2-ball moving target indication (MTI). A 2-ball formation (where two satellites are in close proximity to one another and conducting coordinated collections) enables Umbra to sell SAR data with MTI data to both commercial and USG customers.
