Description
Torque sensing poses a challenge for condition based maintenance as information from the rotating component needs to be sent to the fixed frame. Slip rings may be used though implementation and reliability are areas of concern. A non-contact method of torque sensing using magnetostrictive materials can eliminate the need for a slip ring and can provide useful information for component health monitoring. A system with an integrated data acquisition and signal analysis would allow for a small form factor device to determine the health of rotating shafts.
