Description

Solid propellants require an increase in energy density and combustion efficiency. Applications range from long-term storage of propellants (i.e., maintaining high energy density over time) to improvements in traditional solid rocket boosters as well as pushing the state-of-the-art in controllable, high-slope propellants. Advanced Cooling Technologies (ACT) is collaborating with its partners to develop an advanced solid rocket motor technology for high-performance highly-loaded grains. To this end, ACT will design a solid rocket motor packed with high density energetic materials capable of producing a specific impulse of at least 270 seconds at sea level. The Phase I effort will conduct a proof-of-concept study of notional propellant grains and provide predictions and experiments of their technical performance, including maximum impulse and specific impulse. Safety measurements will also be performed to demonstrate a DOT classification of 1.3 for the notional propellant. Approved for Public Release | 22-MDA-11215 (27 Jul 22)
