Description

The objective of this STTR project is to develop a computational geometry framework with efficient conforming methods for design, analysis, and optimization of the performance of mobility system components. Phase I successfully developed and demonstrated two isogeometric mesh generation approaches: one by extending an existing high-order mesh generator from linear mesh and one by automated parametric NURBS mesh from multi-patch (trimmed) NURBS surfaces with boundary layer grid.  Demonstrations were made for a) moving and rotating bodies, b) coupled fluid-structure interaction application, c) high-order NURBS element generation, and d) adaptive mesh refinement near curved boundaries.  In Phase II, we will a) enhance the NURBS mesh generation technologies and extend to T-Splines; b) explore and automate methods for boundary layer refinement;  c) fully develop  Graphical User Interface; d) demonstrate and qualify the software for a variety of test mesh generations from CAD models for mobility applications; e) port the mesh generation module to parallel computing platforms and optimize performance; f) integrate the computational technique into the DoD CREATE environment at HPCMP; g) demonstrate capability of performing dynamic transient flow simulations in adaptive or morphing structures; and h) deliver software with documentation, user and tutorial manuals, and provide initial training for interested users.
