Description
Cornerstone Research Group proposes to develop a computational toolset which accepts additive manufacturing fabrication parameters, multi-source uncertainty information, and design space specification for optimization of structures subject to fabrication uncertainties. This toolset will provide the Navy with a means of utilizing probabilistic information relating to the maturity of emerging additive manufacturing technologies for accelerated design studies evaluating risk and assessing reliability of fabricated structures against multiple types of failure modes. Phase I will demonstrate the feasibility of the risk and reliability assessment approach within a topology optimization process by applying the developed methodology to a design space and modeling specification for a structure taken from literature considering applications of interest to the Navy.
