Description
CRG completed the first steps toward developing an externally wearable, non-invasive, battery-operated device capable of providing analgesia equivalent to pharmacological peripheral ring nerve blocks by manipulating nervous system activity with magnetic fields. The approach involves optimizing magnetic coils for the transmission of specific waveforms of electrical stimulation to nociceptive nerve fibers. This device will enable point-of-injury analgesia for warfighters and provide an alternative to pharmacological analgesia. In Phase I, CRG demonstrated the feasibility of this device by showing non-contact transmission of analgesic waveforms using fabricated coils in a laboratory setting. These results correlated strongly with electromagnetic modeling efforts.
